Announcement 12 April 2012 from Jackie Wills
After 22 years of making waistcoats I have decided to stop in order to concentrate on other aspects of my design business. This has been a hard and emotional decision to make.
Please be assured that I am still designing/creating/writing/teaching/selling my work but NOT waistcoats.
There are waistcoats in stock that I am keen to sell. Happy to accept any sensible offers, particularly for multi purchases. Ideal stock for a shop? Look out for bargains on Ebay > Thejaxcollection.
I am not saying I will never ever ever make another waistcoat …..but for the time being I am stopping........................
A big thank you to all owners of my unique waistcoats for your custom.
Jackie Wills

November 2010, I was contacted by VOGUE magazine (UK) to create a small floral, chintz fabric waistcoat for a photo shoot. I totally enjoyed the creative process of working with patchwork again . It was fantastic to re-visit vintage fabrics carefully hidden in boxes. All sorts of memories came flooding back as I chose fabric combinations to create Waistcoat 134. I could not wait to start sewing and worked almost without a break until the waistcoat was complete. The result worked perfectly. See slide show below:

Customer testimony:
"Hi Jackie The most beautiful waistcoat arrived this morning it is just as I pictured and visioned, it is absolutely lovely. This is art and creation at its finest. I will enjoy wearing both of them and hope they are admired by all my friends and then I can refer them on to you !!!!
many many thanks"
and now for a very different waistcoat - this is a commission - the theme requested was Dolphins of Knossos - and is now being worn by Prof. Charles Lyman in Florida..... "Lissa said I looked handsome, so I wore it to the opening of the Chinese show at the photo museum which Lissa ( and I ) helped found in the last few years. It was generally admired, and one of the principals said he could always rely on my wearing something special. ( Florida Museum for the Photographic Arts, if you care to google it)"

Below: Detail - Wedding Waistcoat Commission - brief was to create Bridegrooms waistcoat with insects and chess board theme.
"We are finally settling down again after a wonderful wedding summer. The wedding day was beyond our expectations in its intensity and meaningfulness. The item of clothing that attracted most attention was of course the waistcoat. There I was, in my white dress (extraordinary for me to be in a pretty dress) totally eclipsed by my husand's attire!
It is truely a wonderful peice of clothing, but also a piece of art, and a piece of communication and expression. We love it."

A few years ago I purchased one of your gorgeous Dartmoor waistcoats from Brigid Foley in Tavistock. This e-mail is to tell you how much it is still loved and worn - it never grows old - it is still my favourite garment and completely unique. I was buying tops in there the other day and Brigid said she thought you might appreciate knowing by ongoing affection for this lovely piece of clothing. Once again many thanks. J."
